Each year Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) hold an international competition assessed by an international Jury. In 2021 450,000 students participated and produced over 19,000 pieces of environmental journalism for national YRE competitions. The awards showcase YRE students’ journalistic talent and understanding of environmental issues affecting their local communities.
All entries competing in the YRE International Competition have already been awarded 1st place in their respective country’s National YRE Competitions earlier in 2021. The entries are divided into three age groups (11-14, 15-18 and 19-25) as well as three media categories (articles, photos and videos). There is also a special category for International Collaboration.
YRE students in countries participating in the Litter Less Campaign have the opportunity to submit entries concerned with litter and waste issues, which have been assessed separately. All entries have been uploaded on the YRE Competition’s Exposure page. You can also find all shortlisted videos in the UN's Youth Climate Report map. The winners of the competition receive Diplomas and will be published on different international media, forums, environmental conferences, and sessions.
