As part of its Sustainable Landscapes project, the Rainforest Alliance is working to help conserve the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, one of the most fragile and biodiverse ecosystems in Ecuador.
In collaboration with local partners, Rainforest Alliance has created a new model of sustainable management for protected areas that reduces the impacts of tourism, protects unique wildlife species and generates sustainable economic alternatives for indigenous communities within the reserve. This work is part of the Initiative for Conservation in the Andean Amazon (ICAA), a long-term regional program created by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that brings together more than 30 local and international partner organizations for the conservation of the Amazon biome in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.
